Commerce is migrating to digital channels as more consumers and merchants use connected devices to shop, pay and get paid. At Visa, we could not be more excited to see this shift because for nearly 60 years we have worked to replace cash with more efficient, more secure forms of digital payments. That’s why we are pleased to announce the launch of Visa Developer, a new open platform that gives application developers access to Visa’s payments technology, products and services.
Visa Developer is designed for software developers at financial institutions, merchants and technology companies who are building the next generation of commerce experiences. Our goal is simple: Every time Visa account holders dip, swipe, click or wave to pay there is Visa technology ensuring payments are secure and convenient.
“We are unbundling Visa’s suite of products and services and giving developers access to the underlying payment capabilities,” says Rajat Taneja, Executive Vice President of Technology at Visa. “We believe this will lead to entirely new digital commerce experiences with Visa payment capabilities integrated and providing the security and convenience consumers have come to expect of Visa.”
How does it work?
Application developers can register now through the globally accessible Visa Developer Center and start to browse APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) and documentation for some of Visa’s most popular digital payment technologies. They will be able to enhance their own applications or create new commerce experiences by integrating Visa APIs, and test their creation in the Visa Developer sandbox using Visa test data. Developers everywhere can now take advantage of Visa’s global reach, security and payments expertise to create easier, faster ways to shop, pay and get paid.
