Austin prides itself on being a tech hub that rivals Silicon Valley, as well as the host of SXSW, the biggest interactive festival of the year. Right before SXSW, Visa decided to analyze data for all Visa spending in Austin over a 24-hour period to show how digital payments are shaping how event goers enjoy the sights, live music and famous food truck eats.
Visa cardholders in Austin seem to be early birds, with peak transaction times for meals showing top volume for breakfast at 7, lunch at 11 and dinner at 6. And, while breakfast and lunch ring in at averages below $10, the average dinner ticket comes out to a hefty $43.56.
From dining to fun nightlife activities, Visa’s snapshot shows off the different kinds of activities their users spend money on. As the BBQ capital of the world, it’s not surprising that Austinites love to eat—in 24 hours, more than $5.5 million in spending volume came from purchases at grocers and restaurants.
