Miami is easy to navigate. Taken directly from ancient Rome, Miami is one of the great examples of Centuriation, or a grid street plan. Typically, streets run east-west and avenues run north-south. Flagler Street and Miami Avenue serve as the starting point for Miami’s grid system, though minor exceptions are made to accommodate the coastline and some historic neighborhoods like Coconut Grove. The city is divided into four quadrants: NE, NW, SE, and SW. The intersection of Miami Avenue (avenues run north and south) and Flagler Street (streets runs east and west) represent the center of the grid as 0 street and 0 avenue.
